Welcome Sweetone. You've had a tough time with the JWs. No doubt about it, you've suffered. Quite sadly, in my humble opinion, there are people here who have had it worse than you (child molestation victims in particular). It's utterly mind-boggling how much pain the WTS has caused. I'm not a JW but I am married to one. I hope she leaves the borg someday. We have an 8 month old son.

Sara,
Yours is such an amazing story! Thank you for sharing it. Sharing our stories is very theraputic. Yet, it's sad and painful to read about how coldhearted some people in this world are -- especially to their own families. My god!! I can't believe your father-in-law. My wife is a JW and I have a 8 month old son. I know we are on the road to future conflicts.
Peace,
Ray Skyhorse
P.S. What's your username mean? -

Cari,
Welcome to the board. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I find it inspiring to read how people have left the borg. My wife is a JW (she's also from MN) and has the same name as you (different spelling though).I'd like to ask a rather personal question (don't feel like you have to answer it) -- do you keep in contact with your biological father? Have you talked to him about your early years?
Peace,

Bobsgirl & Star,
Thanks for sharing your life stories. They are very moving indeed. It takes a lot of courage to tell the truth sometimes. I feel so sorry that you both have had to suffer so much. It's so frustrating to see how the borg creates so much pain and suffering in the world.
Bobsgirl, you are a truly courageous woman. Reading positive stories like yours gives me the strength to keep on fighting on a daily basis. You are such a strong person. I feel like a weakling compared to you. My wife is JW and it is sometimes a daily struggle for me to maintain a positive outlook on life when I have doubts about being married to a JW. Someday, my wife will be a xJW. Someday.
Star On Broadway, keep your chin up. You are wise and strong beyond your years. I can understand some your feelings regarding your sexuality. I'm bisexual and you are gay; nothing that either one of us can do will change those facts. You can probably be declared an "emancipated minor" by the courts if you want to leave home and live on your own. Living on your own may not be a good option for you, but you may want to think about it. I feel sorry that you are being persecuted for who you are. I believe that there are legal organizations that can assist you with changing your legal status should you decide to pursue that option.

HOW TO HANDLE HIJACKERS
by TR inpeter hannaford .
as it was at most u.s. airports, last saturday was the first near-normal.
day at denver international since the terrorist attacks.

Thanks for passing this along TR.
This subject reminds me of an old episdode of "All in the Family." On the show, Archie Bunker delivers a hilarious editorial rebuttal on how to handle hijackers. He argued that guns should be passed out to all the passengers as they board the plane. If anyone declares that he is a hijacker, then all the other passengers should shoot him.

My Encounter with a Witness
by Unclepenn1 inwell, the other night i had invited a young man to my house to share with him, respectfully, the false prophecies of the wt, using older wt books.
the conversation started very nicely, with the usual small talk and such.
i decided to ask some questions, that i knew the answers to, but just wanted to get the gears in his head turning.

[q]Ray, how do I do this? Do I pretend for weeks that I am interested and then turn on him? I feel bad if I am deceiving someone. Please share more with me. Any suggestions would be welcome![/q]
What you did is called an interaction. That is, you held a short meeting with a cult member in order to share information which would lead him out of the cult. What I'm proposing is that you simply invest a bit more time at getting the person out of the cult. What you need to do is hold multiple interactions with a person in order to establish a relationship. You are not "stringing him along." Your intent is to show him the truth, but only in bite size chunks that are easy to digest. If you do it too quickly, the person will employ defense mechanisms that have been pyschologically ingrained into them by the cult.
I think you are a wonderful human being for trying to get someone out of a destructive cult. Your interactions with JWs can potentially save lives -- think blood transfusion issue.
I suggest you read more about cults and methods for getting people out of cults. In particular, I recommend reading "Releasing the Bonds -- Empowering People to Think for Themselves" by Steven Hassan.
As an xJW, you have the insider knowledge necessary to really help people. Be aware, it does take time and patience. Who knows, maybe you'll become an expert at this some day and write a book about it.
Lastly, Uncle Penn, it is NEVER morally wrong to tell someone the truth. The truth is just easier for cult members to swallow when they are delivered in small chunks over a period of time.
